Confident some tweaks will do the trick!

Well, that’s the hope according to trainer Robbie Caton.

Caton will head to Globe Derby on Saturday night with stable newcomer New Tricks, which lived up to her name during her local debut a fortnight ago.

After breaking stride at the start, New Tricks over raced before finishing at the tail of the field.

“She has shown she has a bit of talent,” Caton said. “The problem is, it just wasn’t at the races when she showed it.

“She had a win, a second and a couple of fourths in her last half dozen starts in New South Wales, so she can go.

“Maybe she’s too accurately-named as she can come up with some new tricks when she wants to.”

Having made several adjustments with the mare Caton is “somewhat confident” New Tricks can take advantage of her draw during her pending assignment.

To be driven by Caton’s partner, Tiana McMahon, the daughter of American Ideal will begin from the pole.

“One of the issues last time was she was too fresh,” Caton said. “We’ve changed a few things with her and increased her workload, so she should be a lot more focused this time around.

“Obviously, her fitness level has also improved, so taking all those factors into account, we’re expecting a much better effort from her.”

In other news, Caton is in the process of relocating to a new facility near Globe Derby which will give him the opportunity to increase the size of his team.

“There is a place not far from where we are that looks quite good,” Caton said. “We’ve been fortunate to have support from the likes of BPM Bloodstock with horses and look forward to continuing with them and having room for others soon.”
